Anuja Konda wins “Young Inspirational Woman of the Year

Ms. Anuja Konda, senior at Mission San Jose High School (MSJHS), co-founded “All Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (AAADA)” in 2016. Along with her AAADA team, Anuja has been actively promoting awareness about the negative impacts of alcohol and drug abuse. Anuja’s team has been setting up AAADA booths at many events across Northern California, where the team interacts with attendees and distributes printed material to provide information and awareness. For this extraordinary volunteer service, Anuja and AAADA have received commendation and recognition certificates from elected officials such as Congressman Khanna, Assemblymembers Chu and Quirk, Mayor Mei, and others. Also, Anuja has received “The President’s Volunteer Service Award”. When asked about why she initiated AAADA, Anuja expressed her inner interest of educating the general population about the opioid crisis throughout the nation and bringing positive change to the community.

At MSJHS and the Fremont Unified School District, Anuja has been elected to student representation bodies for the past few years and currently serves as Senior Class President. Recently, Anuja has won the “Young Inspirational Woman of the Year" award from a twenty-five year old, prominent organization called Indo-American Community Federation (IACF) at its 18th Annual Unity Dinner, which was attended by many elected officials and community leaders.

Also, Anuja has been selected to participate in the prestigious “HeritageINDIA” summer 2019 internship, where she will visit different parts of India to study and understand Indian culture, heritage, lifestyle, healthcare, and socio-economics. This three week travel to India is a fully sponsored by Indiaspora. With a large pool of applicants from all over the US, selection for the HeritageINDIA program was competitive and was based on individual qualifications and an interview.

Apart from being actively involved at her school and in community services, Anuja is a well-known Radio Show host on the weekly radio show “Paatshala” in the San Francisco Area (92.3 FM). Anuja can also be spotted at many cultural events in the Bay Area as a participant in Indian Folk and Semi Classical dance or as an emcee for an event or as a dance choreographer. Anuja graduated from Aerodance Academy in 2015 after rigorous 10 years of training in Indian Film, Folk, and Semi-Classical dance forms. She has participated in many dance competitions and has won prizes at the regional and national level.

With multiple talents and extraordinary leadership skills and volunteer services, Anuja has been very ambitious in her career goal to become a Physician and a leader in promoting innovative healthcare. Anuja has authored three papers and two posters on eHealth and Cancer topics. Anuja’s papers/posters have been published in journals and international conference proceedings.  Surely, Anuja is on a great path to pursue her medical education and positively contribute to society in her future.
