Bharadwaj, Padma Ravinuthula, and Hiranya Ravinuthula under the Single Cell Universe Productions banner. The film is set to release on November 8. During this time, director Komal R. Bharadwaj shared several intriguing details about the film.
About the Director's Background:
Komal explains that his interest in films began in his childhood, largely influenced by his father, who was a writer for stage shows, and his mother, who wrote poetry. The creative atmosphere at home fueled his passion for cinema. He used to tell his family that he would become a director one day. Though he pursued an M.S. degree in the U.S., he later realized his true calling and joined film school. After making several short films and winning awards, he gained the confidence to direct his first feature film, "Rahasyam Idam Jagat." The film features beautiful content, wonderful visuals, and sound design that enhance the storytelling.
Why a Science Fiction & Mythological Thriller?
As a director, Komal wanted to present a unique and different story. During this period, he came across a concept involving the search for the Sri Chakra in India, which is very close to the place he was living in the U.S. The research on the Sri Chakra greatly inspired him. He felt this story, combining elements of our epics with fiction, could be presented in an interesting way. The idea of traveling through wormholes and experiencing different times and spaces formed the basis for the film's concept.
What’s the Most Interesting Point in the Story?
The film offers numerous thrilling moments that will captivate the audience. It features elements from our epics and explores ancient Indian stories. What’s interesting is how the concepts of science and wormholes were mentioned in our scriptures long before they were scientifically understood. The film promises to deliver a great experience to viewers, combining ancient wisdom and modern science.
How Did You Simplify Such a Complex Story?
Although the concept is complex, Komal says that he made an effort to tell the story in a simple, engaging manner. The characters, situations, and elements are all designed in a way that fits the narrative, ensuring the film remains accessible without losing its depth. The complexity is integrated into the storytelling without overwhelming the audience.
Moving from Software to Direction Was it Risky?
Komal acknowledges that making the transition from a software career in the U.S. to becoming a film director was indeed a risk. However, he draws parallels with successful directors like Mani Ratnam, Rajamouli, and Nag Ashwin, all of whom took risks and rose to great positions in their careers. Komal too decided to trust his story and potential and take the leap into filmmaking. He believes that in life, to achieve anything significant, one must take risks. Many have appreciated the story, finding it engaging and unique.
Why Did You Choose Newcomers for This Film?
Komal chose to cast new faces because he believed that fresh talent would bring a new dimension to the story. He feels that newcomers would be able to add more suspense and thrill to the film’s narrative. He adds that fresh faces in such complex roles enhance the thrill factor and elevate the story. Despite being newcomers, the actors performed very well and fit the roles perfectly.
Justification for the Title "Rahasyam Idam Jagat":
The title, "Rahasyam Idam Jagat" (This Universe is a Mystery), reflects the idea that the universe itself is a mystery. The film draws upon the ancient idea of traveling between different realms (or worlds) and relates it to the concept of wormholes. According to scriptures, there are many worlds, and many stories are connected to these realms. The universe itself is a great mystery, and the film touches upon just a small part of that mystery.
What Are Your Future Projects?
Komal shares that he has several great stories lined up for future films, which are already ready in terms of budget and preparation. He intends to continue making films with fresh, untapped concepts, ensuring that each project is unique and original. He plans to address the lessons learned from this experience and improve upon his craft in future works.
"Rahasyam Idam Jagat" promises to be an immersive experience, blending ancient mythological concepts with modern scientific ideas, offering a fresh take on Indian epics and science fiction. The director’s vision is to create films that present stories never touched before, with a commitment to originality and uniqueness.
