TPAD celebrates Chinna Bathukamma

Telangana People’s Association of Dallas (TPAD) on Friday, 27th celebrated chinna bathukamma in Andrew Brown Park East in Coppell, TX.  Bathukamma, a 9-day festival is a floral celebration of the goddess of womanhood, Gauri Devi.  Each day has a name, mainly signifying the type of "naivedyam" (food offering) offered. TPAD celebrated the first day of the festival called, Engili pula Bathukamma in a huge scale. The 9th day called Saddula Bathukamma or pedda Bathukamma is scheduled to be held at Allen Event Center, Allen on October 5th. It’s estimated that over 10,000 Telugu people would take part in the Bathukamma Dasara Celebrations this year.

Women made beautiful floral Bathukammas and turned out in large numbers. They sang bathukamma songs of goddess Gauri devi and danced to those songs.  A woman whose family has recently relocated to Dallas, had expressed her deep regards to TPAD for conducting the festivities in a very authentic manner and felt emotional for having celebrated the festival after almost ten years. Large number of parents were also seen and helped carrying out the harathi and nimarjanam rituals in the most authentic way.

TPAD Leadership conveyed the Media that preparations are well in progress for the upcoming Bathukamma & Dasara Sambaralu on October 5th including Food arrangements, Parking and Security. They promised a majestic cultural/musical bonanza with singers to come from India. TPAD conveyed thank you to all the women for a huge turn out and extended the invitation to their upcoming Bathukamma Dasara event.
