Sandhya (Sandy) Reddy re-elected as a Councilor

Strathfield Deputy Mayor Sandhya (Sandy) Reddy has been re-elected as a Councillor for the NSW local body elections held in September 2024, representing the Liberal Party. A dedicated advocate for the Strathfield community, Sandy’s commitment to her constituents has been instrumental in her successful re-election.

Prior to joining the Liberal Party in 2023, Sandy served as Deputy Mayor as an elected independent councillor. Her impressive campaign, supported by her dedicated team "TeamSandy" and the local community, resulted in a record number of votes for her party.

Sandy’s dedication to preserving Indian heritage and culture in Australia has made her a role model for many young people. Her recent election has been met with widespread congratulations from the Indian diaspora and community organizations.

Background on Sandhya Reddy 

Born in Telangana, India, Sandhya Reddy pursued her education at Stanley Girls' School and Hyderabad University, earning degrees in Law and MA Anthropology from Osmania University. She furthered her studies by completing a Migration Law degree at the Australian National University.

Since her arrival in Australia in 2007, Sandy has been actively involved in local community initiatives. Her contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Strathfield Citizen of the year Award in 2020 and the National Emergency Medal 2024.

Together with her husband, Buchi Reddy, Sandy has been volunteering with the State Emergency Services (SES) for over a decade. Their commitment to serving the community has been exemplary.

Sandy and Buchi Reddy are proud parents of two sons, Neil Reddy and Nikhil Reddy. Both boys have achieved remarkable success in chess, with Nikhil becoming the first Indian child to win the Australian National Junior Chess Championship in 2017.
